ROYAL RECOGNITION

Tn Japan royal recognition has been accorded the work of a home-grown woman scientist, Miss Yacka Yaminnara, daughter of the managing director of a large plantation in the Philippines where she has made a study of marine life and shells. Her work in discovery and classification has long been known to Japanese scientists, but the Emperor, on being shown a collection, was amazed tu hear that it represented the work of a woman. Now she has been given a special decoration —for a woman a unique distinction in Japan.
