A letter was rteceived from the Department of Agriculture outlining the research work being done in connection with contagious mammitis, abor tion, etc The department, in addition to carrying on investigations itself, was keeping in touch with research stations in various parts of the world. "It is a gre&t problem," stated the chairman, "and it is satisfactory to find that the department is keeping on with it. We must not expect them to - solve all at once what has been puzzling the best brains of the world for years past." The letter was re : ccivcd STANDARDISED CHEESE. Mr T. Webb commented on the present prices- of New Zealand cheese on the London market which, he declared, were unsatisfactory. iSomethini,' should be done to raise the level' of the product. Mr Wallace attributed the poorer, quality of certain ctieese to the use of separated, milk. The chairman moved, and it was unanimously carried, that the .association write to the Director of the Dairy Division, Department of Agriculture, protesting against the regulations permitting the manufacture of standardised cheese, a 3 the association is of the opinion that standardised cheese, with a lesser butter-fat content, will have a detrimental effect upon the good name of New Zealand full-cream, cheese.
