PROLONGING THE LIFE OF YOUR CLOTHES

SIMPLE CLEANING METHODS

Spots on Unwashable Clothes.

Have ready a supply -of absorbent pads; a fountain pen filler; a couple of good brushes; a piece of clean chamois leather; a bowl; an old spoon; wellcorked bottles containing petrol, ehororeform, ether, ammonia, alum, etc. The best method is to place a pad of absorbent cloth or wool beneath the soiled part. Dtop the petrol or vvhatever cleaning fluid you are using oa to the spot with the fountain pen filler, and then rub the offqnding mark with the old spoon. Next absorb the excess of petrol with a soft, clean chamois leather, and finish the work by brushing the cloth gently. Remember that most cleaning agents are highly inflammable and should be used in the open air. Chloroform for Ordinary«Colours. Chloroform is a dry cleaner which is non-inflammable and harmless to ordinary colours. It should be used in the open air by the untrained cleaner, however, because of its volatile nature. Delicate colours should be tested in an unimportant part of the garment by applying the cleaning agent and allowing to dry. If the colour remains firm, treat soiled parts as instructed.
