SHANNON AMATEUR ATHLETIC & CYCLING CLUB.
} A general meeting of members of the above Club was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the president (Mr R. Downes) presiding. ! The Manawatu Sub-centre wrote ad-
vising that they have decided to send two runners and one cyclist to the championships (provincial) to be held at Masterton on 9th. February, 1929, also stating that they would be glad to receive nominations for a team from I the Club. —Received. ' From the secretary of the Manawatu Sub-Centre stating that at a meeting considerable dissatisfaction was expressed at the unsatisfactory treatment meted out to them by the Wellington Cefftre during the past and present season. The opinion was expressed that it would be to the subcentre’s advantage to'secede from the Wellington Centre and to affiliate with the Wanganui-Taranaki-West 'Coast Centres. Also that Clubs were being circularised to test their feeling oil the matter, afte.- whieh a special meeting of the sub-centre is to be called to further consider the project. —As no reasons were given for making a change it was decided to write to the sub-centre for this information. Mr Jas. Curran reported that an
inspection had been made of the cycle track at the Domain,, it being decided to put it in order with a view to holding a meeting at an early date. This work has since been carried out and' the thanks of the committee are due to Mr W. Christian for the use of his tractor and to Mr C. C. Franks for loaning his lorry, also to Mr R. Hayes and all those members who gave assistance. —It was decided to write to these gentlemen thanking them and a motion to this effect be placed on the minute book. •, FIXTURE TO BE HELD. The question of holding a sports meeting was then discussed, after which it was decided that the President and 'Mr Jas. Curran, jun., act with Mr Bovis in fixing a date, which is to be Saturday, 23rd February, if it is available. This committee to report to a general meeting of members to be held in the Council Chambers tomorrow evening at 7 o’clock. A committee consisting of Messrs R. Downes, Jas. Curran, J. T. Bovis and H. V. Hudson were set up to draw up a programme, which is to be submitted to Saturday night’s meeting. It was decided to call tenders for the catering. The matter of obtaining suitable music was left to Mr J. T. Bovis to report on.
