LADY ANNE’S SYMPTOMS
Gossip has succeeded, or nearly succeeded, in getting the Prince.of Wales married off on many occasions. His Royal Highness is of distinctly marriageable age, the ivorld's most eligible bachelor, and it is not so long ago sipec a serious-minded English daily reminded him editorially that it was time he took the plunge. The Empire expects (so it said) the heirs to the throne to be settled in double harness by the time they are in the thirties. This accounts for some of the efforts made to make a match for the Prince. Not long ago it w T as Lady May Cambridge, daughter of the Earl of Athlone. There is also some talk of a Spanish Infanta. But more probable seems the latest rumour. It connects the prince's name with that of beautiful 18-year-old Lady Anne Wellesley, daughter of the Marquis of Douro, and a descendant of the illustrious Duke of Wellington. . When the Prince was in Africa, Lady Anne lay ill with pneumonia. Her progress was cabled day by day to the Prince, in code. Asked whether his daughter was engaged to the Prince, the Marquis of Douro refused to confirm or deny. But lie did. not deny that the Prince had shown solicitude.
