EVERYDAY ACCIDENTS; FIRST-AID AND HOW
There are two kinds of accidents that happen to the busy housewifeburns and euts. Take burns first. A bad and extensive burn is a very serious thing, and needs medical attention as soon as possible. , But pending the doctor’s arrival, or in case one is living in the country miles away from one, every woman should have some idea of what to do. ■
1 The most serious effect of a bad burn is the shock or collapse accompanying it. This is shown by extreme pallor, a quick, weak pulse, and low temperature, and some patients coniplain of thirst. .When this condition is evident immediate steps must be taken to counteract it before treating the; actual burn.
Get the patient, into. bed . quickly, cutting, off the -clothes if necessary, and cover her with several blankets. Place all the hot water bottles you can get hold, of.in the bed, but don’t for-, get to cover them firsts'- If your patient can' swallow, give small drinks of hot milk and brandy—one table-
