MAKERUA SCHOOL.

ANNUAL PRIZEGIVING. A most enjoyable time was spent by parents and friends at the Makerua School on Wednesday afternoon, the occasion being the annual prize giving, the prizes being presented by the Chairman 6f the School Committee, Mr C. Andersen.

Referring to the year’s work, the Headmaster, Mr Taylor, expressed his sincere thanks to the School Committee for the loyal and kindly support accorded him during the year, and also to the Rev. Mr Williamson for his self-sacrificing work in connection with the religious instructipn of the children. He was sorry that circumstances had prevented Father McDermot from carrying on his class as in other years. The Rev. Mr Williamson said it had been a very great pleasure to him to visit the school from week to week, and he had been much encouraged in his work by the interest shown by the pupils and would like to express his deep appreciation of the _ assistance given him by Mr Taylor, without which he could not have carried on the work. ■ The Secretary of the School Committee, Mr Russell, stated that on behalf of the parents he had great pleasure in asking Mr Taylor to accept a small present as a mark of their appreciation of the interest he had taken in the children, and school matters generally. In briefly returning thanks Mr Taylor said that, he very much appreciated the spirit in which the. present had been made, and. felt very much encouraged by the kind remaihs that had been made.
