MEETING OF CITIZENS. ' The" meeting of Shannon citizens convened bv the Mayor (Mr E. Butt) to place before them the request of Dr. Waddel, who has decided to commence practice in Shannon, for. guarantee that his income would bo made up to £7OO for the first year, was hold in the Maoriland Theatre on Fri-; day evening, when there were about thirty present. I The Mayor informed the meetiag that the doctor recently met the Borough Council and discussed with thent the guarantee. He had informed them that' it would mean, a big outlay for him to commence practice and he would like a guarantee that his income wouhi be brought up to the ‘-amount' stated above. The Council had informed the doctor that they had not the power to give him the guarantee, but assured him that they would call a-meeting of and do all they could to assist him in getting a guarantee. To attain this object the Council would like to see a committee of citizens set up to make arrangements to canvass the borough and district for donations. Ht pointed out that if it was found dt end of the year that the doctor*s\income had reached the £7OO, the mouej collected would be refunded to th.-; donors. • J 4 A general discussion followed, aftm which a citizens'’ committee was formed, consisting of Messrs A. E. Hyde F. Taylor, E. T. Moody, H. V. Hudson, O. Cronquest, B. Lister, and C Grey. ". The general meeting then fimshe*. and a meeting of the committee wa held. Mr A. E. Hyde was appointee chairman and Mr Hudson secretary Messrs Hyde, Moody and Taylor wer appointed trustees, with Mr Moody a treasurer.
