■». . ' > CLAIMS A DRY PARLIAMENT. , The Dominion Executive of the N.Z. Alliance met in Wellington last week*. The President, Mr Chas. Todd, of Dunedin, presided over a large attendance of members —-representative? of all parts of the Dominion. Following the opening oxen Lis meeting passed a loyal resolution in the following terms: —“That we place on record our loyal sympathy with Majesty the King in Iris soiloiis illness, with the devout hope for an early and complete recovery. ” A resolution of- sympathy with the relatives of tire late Mr W. G. Bassett, a former vice-president’ of the Alliance, \yas passed by silent standing vote. Messages of greeting were sent to Mr Wesley Spragg and Mr A. C. Caughey, both of Auckktnd, and both vice-presidents. of tin Alliance, • whtj were reported as suffering from illness. THE RECENT POLL. The President in his .opening message dealt with the position as revealed by the vote at : the recent Licensing poll,*after which the general secretary off the Alliance ! presented a lfisJgp. covering the activities of the paign, together with proposals for future' action. Following a very full discussion it was resolved to set up a special commission Avho will consider the general secretary’s report, together with remits received from the areas, and report to a special meeting of the Executive to be held in January, 1929. The discussion • indicated complete unanimity in the decision to carry <»i the campaign for the abolition off the liquor traffic, the question of mettiQf being a matter for further consideration. 4 THE GENERAL 'SECRETARY. , The following resolution in regain to the General Secretary, Mr C. R. Ed mond, Avas carried by the unanimo\v vote of the meeting:— “That this meeting off the Demin ion Executive of the N.Z. Alliance ex presses its fullest confidence in th General Secretary, Mr C.
