MINORITY PARTIES.
A Chronicle reader forwards an interesting tabulation of the votes cast at the recent general election as stated in the final official returns. This shows that the three main political divisions in Parliament are minority parties, and cannot claim to represent the country as a. whole. Three-quarters of a million votes were cast and they were apportioned as fellows:— Reform 252,551 United v 240,573 Labour 203,350 Independents . . . . 49,936 Liberal-Labour .. .. 4,469 Country Party .. l :.. 13,748 Christian Socialist 200 Informal 7,318 772,145 Apportioning the several Independent candidates to the parties with which they have aligned themselves, tire voting strength is seen to be. as follows: United 286,431 Reform .. 268,179 Labour 205,674 The Maori voters total 20,783.
