RAMP MOTOR GARAGES

NEW IDEA IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Oct. 25. There is now in operation the first of Sydney's ramp garages, as a profitable means of meeting the needs of motorists who, Avith the ever increasing congestion of traffic and restrictions on parking ,are finding it difficult to knoAv what to do with their cars when they bring them into the city. Cars left at street kerbs arc watched with ceaseless vigil by Argus-eyed young policemen, Avho spend quite a busy time Avalking u«p and down tho streets Avith note-books, taking the numbers of cars whose owners have tarried. The new ramp garage has room for about 600 cars, and, as itn name indicates, makes it possible for them to be safely quartered even up on the fifth floor.

Many vacant lots in the city are now serving profitable and useful purposes as parking areas* With reasonable charges for accommodation, and with a comparatively small rent., no doubt for the ground, those running these little enterprises, and selling oil and petrol as side lines, must be making quite a good living. It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good, since the police are restricting more and more the parking area of cars in the streets.
