A TRACK DILEMMA
The difficulties which mot'orists have to contend with when some part of the mechanism of their cars or motor cycles with which they are not per fcctly familiar breaks flown are often .the cause of/ considerable amusement to the onlookers. This w'as the experience of two promiflent drivers and a mechanic during a demonstration and scat they Were, making on a dirt track ■in Europe before a crowd. For a time the car ran well, but then it ceased to fire on full throttle, although the slow running was not affected. Obviously the main, jet had been obstructed, but , neither. the driver nor the mechanic was familiar with the carburettor, aud they found it a very complicated instrument, compared with the type to which they were accustomed. After a considerable search, in the course of which the whole carburettor was pulled to pieces and solemnly blown through, in case some particular section: might ■ be the main jet, it' was discovered that l their component had come adrift altogether, and been.sucked by the induction of. the. engine into the butterfly throttle, where it had jammed.
