LIFE-SAVING ENTHUSIASTS.
PROGRESS IN LEVIN. A life-saving practice was held on Tuesday evening at the Municipal Baths in connection with the recentlyformed Levin Swimming and Life-sav-ing Club. Approximately twenty were present and the five methods of carrying a person in danger of drowning were demonstrated in the water. Several who received instruction last season have made good progress.
The revival of the Club-has had the effect of bringing to light several good swimmers and holders of .the Royal Life-saving Society’s awards, who were not in the district when the Swimming Club went into recess some two years ago. These new members are cooperating enthusiastically in the work, of imparting instructor, and expert tuition* is assured for all who care to take advantage of it. The Club night is Tuesday, at 7 p.m. Classes are now being formed for candidates for the Proficiency; Certificate and Bronze Medallion- of the Society. There are, also, two candidates for the Society’s v Award of Merit, which is only open to members who have passed’the Bronze Medallion test. It, is hoped to send a team to Palmerston next Februaiy 'to compete for the Weston J. Smith Rose Bowl. This competition consists of the first .four methods of rescue, each a distance of twenty yards, and the Schafer method of resuscitation. The winning team holds the Rose Bowl for twelve months. The trophy is reserved for v competition among all Clubs in the Manawatu Centre of the Royal Lifesaving Society.
