“JOY NIGHT.”
Great success attended the annual “Joy Night,*' held in the De Luxe Social Hall on Wednesday, there being an attendance of about 240, which included yisitois from Palmerston North, Wanganui, Wellington, Otaki, Shannon and Foxton. The hall was charmingly decorated, the effect being that of a great bower created by the use of greenery, coloured streamers and electrie lights, festoons and balloons. Novelties were introduced which' gave a truly gala character to the function, squeakers, Halloween horiis, blow-outs, confetti and balloons being issued to the guests. Music of a high standard was provided by the Alhambrians’ full orchestra, consisting of Messrs J. Rikihana (violin), H. Varnham (piano), H. Barnett and W. Phillips (saxophones), G. Fox (cornet), D. Niehol (banjo), and D. P. Fox (drums and effects). A pianoforte extra was played by Mr Niehol; and through the kindness of Mr K. Aitken the dancers were able to enjoy.the experience of. being accompanied by.music from the Columbia Kolster electric gramophone. The supper was on a sumptuous scale, and the catering was efficiently carried out by Mr A; L. Williams. All -who attonded the gathering thoroughly enjoyed themselves and many appreciative comments were made relative to the completeness of the arrangments, for which a committee consisting of Misses A. Cooper and V. Devine (both of whom ztssisted 'with the novelties) and Messrs H. Barnett, H. Yarnham and D. P. Fox, were responsible.
