POLLING DAY IN SHANNON.
Electors were early astir in Shannon on Wednesday to record their votes and all day there was a steady stteam to the polling booth, with the result that there was heavier polling than at the election in 1928, there also being an increase in the number of absentee votes recorded;
Early in the evening the piiblic commenced to gather at the Maoriland Theatre w r here the Shannon News, through the theatre management, displayed the results as they came to hand. Throughout the evejning the theatre was packed to its utmost, the crowd receiving each result with loud cheering, which at times was mingled with disapproval when some partisan's candidate was defeated. At times the excitement was at breaking point, judging by the uproar. During the evening Mr Small and Mr Taylor, two of the defeated candidates, both visited Shannon and returned thanks to. the electors. Mr Taylor stated that he felt proud of the support that had been accorded him. at Shannon. Both candidates were heartily cheered.
