SWIMMING CLUB REVIVED.

LIFE-SAVING TO BE FEATURED

A movement is well under way with the object of reviving the Levin Swimming Club, which went into recess in .1920 owing, to the infantile paralysis scare. A meeting of old members, with supporters, was held last Thursday evening, when, despite inclement weather, there was a good attendance, over which Mr H. J. Jones presided. It was decided to hold the opening swim on Wednesday, November 21st, at 7 p.m., with one event each for men, ladies, boys and girls. After the contests the annual meeting will be held, in the Band Room, and all interested are heartily invited to attend. Mr Olive Hobson is acting-secretary of the club, the name of which, it was suggested, should be changed to "the Levin Amateur Swimming and LifeSaving Club." The intention is to form a life-saving section and give displays on the Hokio beach, and to organise a big opening day in this connection, in which people actively'' interested at Otaki and other southern places will b-j asked to participate. Subsequently it is hoped to make features of life-sav-ing and water polo at club gatherings in the Municipal Baths. Levin has mary swimmers, and among them are about a dozen v ho are, of more than ordinary ability, with whose services it should be possible to enter a team for the Manawatu -championships. Every year the ranks of local swimmers* are swelled by more than sixty from the. District High School. A number of pupils who have left the district have made names for themselves, notably Miss Kathleen Donald, who carried off the girls' championship of the Taranaki associated schools, and Miss V. Milton, who went to Wanganui a few years ago and has since represented that city at championship meetings.
