RACING AT LEVIN TO-MORROW.

Big Fields Will Puzzle Speculators.

Form—A Guide for Otaki.

The Acceptances Reviewed.

(By "Silken Rein.")

From- point of view of the speculative- public, the handicapper has set some very interesting problems and while surprises are likely, recent form of the runners should be 'fairly, reliable. The fact that Otaki meeting .will"follow almiost immediately after the local fixture, added interest will be taken in the performances of the runners and an increase in attendance is almost certain. The track will be in capital, order and a fine day is all that will be needed'to complete au'enjoyable day's outing:

iThe Programme. •

19 A MANAKAU HACK HURDLES, ' of 120 sovs. One mile and a-half.

The meeting will open with tho Hurdles in which Horomea is considered best, having 10.12 allotted her. In her first outing over the battens at Waverley she carried off the honours with distinction 'and she need only go. to the post to-morrow to be accorded best support. There is some doubt, however,, in that respect as she is likely* to start in t;he principal. Panaroma has form from other seasons that would recommend thim in this field, but he has little recent performances that would throw any light on his.prospects'for to-morrow. The N.Z. Cup winners, Rouen and, Sunart have no winning form in this class, but both are reported to be on the improve. Star Shell was quietly expected in the last outing, but failed. .This company, .however, is a good deal weaker. Othon, whose flat performances were very poor, appears better suited over the obstacles, having recorded a win at Dannevirke and running dangerously close ,to Ballyfarnon at.Hawke's Bay. That running*'will bring him some support. . Olympic reads well at 9.11 and if started should give a good account of himself. He also claims an engagement -in the Cup. Of the remainder, Lieut. Bill and. Grand National will make most appeal, the former winning. at Napier after being placed several times while Grand National improved to third place behind Ballyfarnon and Othon at Hawkes Bay. Presuming thai Horomea will be reserved for the'cup, the next best trio appear to be

Othon Grand National Star Shell.

12 45 WBEAEOA HACK HANDI- * CAP, of 110 sovs. Seven fur-

Of the seventeen due to start in this race, Shining Star, Gasnapper Teremoana, Bissac, Vaucluse and Green Acre are engaged in other events. Kotowhero came to light with a second at Carterton and Wellington, -while Green Acre is the most recent winner in the field, having won at Waverley on Labour Day. Shining Star's double win at the Manawatu Hunt meeting will bring the chestnut some support. He will be better suited for this distance ■ than in the Lake Hack. > Mandarine will claim the attention of a small section, wliile Teremoana is a likely one but will probably prefer the maiden event. Last year's dividend payer Bissae has no form for recommendation, neither did he have so on the last occasion. King Quex is only a moderate performer, a fourth at 'Mastertou seems his only recent placing. The two hurdlers Elysianor and Hymesfcrason should be capable of keeping this field galloping. On breeding lines, Bourse should be a champion, but has not as yet given an indication of being one. Borsalene and Otaura , Lass will be best supported of the others, particularly the latter who has . been running against luek. With the actual starter in doubt, the sorting is difficult,, but in its present stage it looks like a race between Shining Star. Gkreen Acre Rdtowhero,

The annual race meeting of the Levin Racing Club will be held at Levin to-mor,fow. The acceptances received establish a record so far as this club is concerned and if the number of acceptors is any indication as to the success of a meeting, this year's fixture should be prosperous enough to considerably enhance the local club's claim for an extra day's raving each year. Every event on the programme has filled well and the numbers total 142 ac against 104 for last year.

Public support in the Maiden race will be most inclined toward recent place-getters, and this ! is represented in Teremoana third to Cashier and The Warden at Wanganui and second to Charmaline at Dannevirke; Skyrider, second to Cold Air at Manawatu; 'Dancing Star .second to Just So at Otaki. Both Flying Binge and Moutoa Fume are reported from Awapuni to be in good order, while the local trained Catuna should do better in maiden company than he did among the class at Wellington. Cavity who is to run in the interests of a local sportsman is a good sort who will be .much benefitted with a race. Anything is likely in a ;field of twenty-four runners, but if their-, draw for post positions are favourable ones, the following trio rend most likely. Skyrider Teremoana Dancing Star.

2 |5 MAKO MAKO.HANDICAP,-of 110 sovs. Six: furlongs.

The top-weight Henna) it will be remembered, struck form at this time last year and went on to record some very impressive wins. She has not. however anything recent to recommend her. Arrow Boy has been consistent winning'well'at' Mastertou and followed up with a second and fourth at' Wellington. The bracket, Green Acre and Argue, looks' an attractive bet, but in all probability Green Acre will start earlier in the* day. Argue ran, second in «■ five furlong race at Waver-' icy .-;!! Labour Day, the event being won by l.ady Quex. On weights the former should prevail. Moutoa Wonder will no doubt be considerably benefitted from his racing in Australia. Holus Bolus is. reported to be training on well, while Mark Mint will have the benefit of knowing the course. Oreades would do well in hack company if she was as good as last year, when she beat all but Mireusonta in the open six. Cold Air, as a recommendation, hat; his maiden win at Manawatu. Disrank will appeal most of the others. He was third behind Shining Star and Tanagra at Mf:,na\vahi, but he will have to improve a Jot on that performance to have a winning chance. The favoured trio will probably be— Arrow Boy. Argue Mark Mint

3 0 LEVIN CUP, of 300 sovs. One mile and a-quarter.

In the principal event set down for decision to-morrow the veteran, Nukumai, has been given pride of place. In the Spring Hurdle Handicap at Eiecarton a fortnight ago he ran a good race to finish second and it will all depend on what the going is like tomorrow, as to how he will appeal to the public. It looks at present as though it. will be against him. Paitonu, last year's winner, has gone up considerably in weight, but he will be in demand.' Towards the latter part of last season it was noticeable that .his running on a second day was a vast improvement on the first day. Blimp appeals in this field and the result of- his dead heat with Eoyal Game,„at Masterton at even weights, should make this an interesting- race in that the pair are to again race to-

morrow on terms. It will probably be found that the Gasbag gelding will command more attention than the former. Shining Armour had an unsuccessful trip to the New Zealand Cup meeting and would give one the impression that he is a back number. He has a particular liking, nevertheless, for both Levin and Otaki courses, and this will not be disregarded. Horomea is engaged in the hurdles, but there is a possibility of-his going to the post in this race, in which case he will not have to be regarded lightly. Novar has not the form for recommendation, but the spell should work wonders on the Awapuni gelding. Teri is, at present, the most favoured with ante-post ajnd on performances he looks dangerous, his record showing a second behind Goshawk at Wellington (one mile), second to commendation at Masterton (seven furlongs), and second to Panther at Eiccarton (seven furlongs).' -He has yet, nevertheless to prove himself over 1\ miles, though he ran a good second behind Horomea at Masterton. Avro is a little out of class, but age may have worked an improvement and it must be remembered that he Was good enough to get second in a mile event at Waverley. Kilmiss is an unreliable sort and comes to light when least expected, while the local trained Kilperon will make it a merry mile. He has shown some little,, indication of staying on, too. Talisker will have to improve a good deal to win, but Orazone is fancied by good judges. The Foxton representative, Discourse, should with age, develop into a good class handicap mare and she will have a large following to-morrow. Twink does not as yet appear to have gone above hack class, while Olympic will find more support in the hurdles. Capt. Gazeley and Imperial Spark will have difficulty in finding support While the distance is likely to trouble Kilmezzo.' The race bears a very open aspect and a surprise is likely. Good support, however, will be found for— Blimp Teri Discourse.

LAKE HACK HANDICAP, of 1.10 sovs. One mile and a distance. (

In a field of thirteen Kalos with 9.0 should not lack for support. The.distance, though may find him out while Shining Star does not appeal over a distance further than seven. Tanagra is most likely on recent running, and he reads as best in this field. He scored an impressive win at Hawkes Bay in September. Tcheka is now at the •best of his form, but how he shapes over a mile is. not known. Gold Bag won a six at Waipaw.a recently and now that he, is in form he will be respected, Bissac has an earlier engagement. Volplane is suited with the distance, though he has no winning form for recommendation. Of the others Gasnapper appeals most, but lie also lias another engagement. It will probably be found t.h'at most support will be accorded —

Tanagra Gold Bag

Tcheka.

43Q Mcdonald memorial HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Six furlongs.

The open six furlong handicap has filled well. Piuthair and Callanmore figure as a bracket on top of the list and the* former,- that good daughter' of Kilbroney —Black Ada, is due to have her first outing of the season. Callanmore is a speedy four-year-old and as the result of Lis fourth and first at Wellington, will not lack for favour. Vertigern has not been seen out for some time and with no guide as to his prospects for to-morrow, he will suffer slight neglect. The Ofaki representative, Uelotis, will no doubt have a large following and a reproduction of her Wanganui form will be anticipated by her admirers. Dobbin has little f"nn for support, but Keddar should be nearly good enough. Miss Pat can handle the Levin course particularly well and if she is anything like her real self she will be there at the finish. Bonogne finished second at Waverley, but he was good enough to beat Silvermine, who later won the Stewards' Handicap at fiiecarton from a real first class field of sprinter.;. That performance of the Bisogne_ chestnut will be worth some consideration. Wanderlust's form this season has not been outstanding, but a six should not be beyond him. An improving runner will be found in Kilbronsyth, and his turn will not be long. It will be a run on his home course to-morrow. The Immigrant has shown some brilliancy in past seasons, but has no recent form for any amount of speculation. The youngster, Eidgemount, has shown flashes of speed as a two-year-old, and it will be interesting to see how he goes in open company. Bonhomme has not recorded a win for some considerable time, but he is being respected by his home town supporters. Arrow Boy and .Twink have earlier engagements, but in respect of the latter this distance would suit better. The one likely to cause a surprise is Moutoa Treasury. She is a three-year-old filly by Paper Money from Moutoa Ivanova and on her dam's side is closely related to that one time champion, Sasanof. Moutoa Treasury has the speed. It will not be an easy race for punters

but with any luck the following trio should go well: — Helotis Bonogne MiHs Pat.

g 20 TTOKIO HACK HANDICAP, of 111) wv-s. Five furlongs

The meeting will conclude with the Hokio Il.'K-k Handicap and a five furlong race with a field of twenty-four, it will not appear comforting in respect of effecting a recovery. Quantum is credited with being one of the speediest, ,but Veronese has later recommendations for which there will be support. Dry Area is a likely sort, while Baskier, Golden Shadow, Bash, Brown Sugar and Wet Winter are all possibilities cm recent running. The public may select — Veronese Lady Quex Blaskier.
