As a result of the heavy rain at the latter end of last week the Manawatu river was again in flood, and once more settlers residing on its banks were caused a good deal of anxiety. Traffic on the old Shannon-Foxton road was entirely suspended owing to the water being across the road; the pum also being out of action. Although the water commenced to run over the road on the Shannon side of the Kara bridge, due to the local water causing the creek to overflow', but was not sufficient to interfere with the traffic. At Buckley, the low-lying portion of the country, again suffered. At Moutoa the bank has suffered considerably and continues to subside as the water goes down. A length of about 21 miles is affected. One of the chief sufferers is Mr Spring senr., the water haying broken through the bank on to his farm, destroying crops of potatoes, oats, mangolds, Chou moullier and mangolds, while owing to the bank subsiding right opposite his i house, there is a big danger of the building being washed away should the river rise again. As a precaution the bulk of his furniture has been removed to safety.
