SHANNON BOROUGH HIGHWAY

The application by the Shannon Borough Council for the services of the County Engineer in preparing an estimate for the main highway through ’the borough was not successful at the meeting of the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday. A letter was received from the Shannon local body reminding the County Council that in April of last year an application was made for the Engineer’s services, but was held over owing te the position being vacant. The Town Clerk now asked when it would be convenient for the Engineer to give the necessary information. /

The Chairman (Mr Monk) said that, as far as he could see now, it was quite impossible for the Engineer to undertake the work.

Cr. Kilsby asked if this Council had not given an undertaking in the matter.

The Chairman stated that Mr Anderson, the late Engineer, had said he. could do it; but the Chairman was satisfied that, with the work ahead of the staff, the present Engineer could not undertake the Shannon job at • this juncture. It was resolved to write to the Shannon Borough Council ’ regretting the County Council’s inability to spare the Engineer and stating that they were not in a position t-o say when he would be available.
