Recent visitors to the Leamington Domain have been somewhat surprised at the lack of bloom on the roses;in the gardens. This is explained by an unfortunate occurrence which happened a couple of weeks ago. The rose garden at that time gave every promise of a splendid show of blooms. Grazing in an adjoining part of the Domain were a number of sheep,- and whether the animals got through the gate or through the fence into the garden's is not known, but when Mr Baneka went to the gardens in the morning, he was astonished to find that there were no less than thirty sheep grazing on the tender young buds and foliago in the rose garden. Every bush (with the exception of the tall standard roses in the centre of the bed) had been closely cropped, henqe the present lack of blooms on the trees. The roses are at present showing promise of a fine display later on, the. trees having started a healthy second growth, and are rapidly recovering from their drastic and uncommon pruning.—Cambridge Independent.
