FLAX INDUSTRY DISPUTE.

STILL UNSETTLED,

The conference held on Wednesday at Palmerston North, between representatives of the Manawatu Flaxmiilers’ Association and the Flax workers Union to discuss the deadlock which has arisen.over the wages dispute, failed to bring about a settlement and the dispute will now be brought before the Arbitration Court at Wellington on November 16th.

We are informed that the employers asked for a straigh-out reduction of 10 per cent until flax reaches £27 10s per ton. The Union’s request was for" a sliding of wages as suggested by Mr Clinkard, of the Department ot Industry and Commerce.
