SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.
The Shannon Borough Council met in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: The Acting Mayor (Cr. T. C. Thwaites) and Crs TJ. Downes, K. Hook, Jas. Curran jun., Jas Curran sen. Apologies for absence were reecived from Crs A. E. Hyde and E. J. S. Spencer. . Leave of absence was granted Cr. Spencer. CORRESPONDENCE.
-The Wellington Manufacturers' As : sociation forwarded an interesting copy of the New Zealand . Manufacturers' Directory, with a request that whenever possible the Council will endeavour to use "New Zealand-made goods.— Received. A letter of thanks was received from the Manawatu Automobile Association for fixing up the bridge at the southern end of the borough, pointing out that the improvement made to tin- bridge is greatly appreciated.—Received. From the office of the Minister of Public Works acknowledging the fetter from the Council protesting against the provisions in the Motor Vehicles Regulations regarding the erection of sio-ns in streets to indicate the areas in" which spoed limits aie reduced below those mentioned m the regulations and the provision requiring local bodies to erect a traffic sign of Class A upon every road crossed by a railway or tramway. The- reply stated that , the Council's view will receive every , careful consideration-—deceived. ! • RANGER'S REPORT.
The ranger (J. .Swindlehurst) reported that during the past fortnight he had impounded one cow and three others had been claimed by the owner ; while being driven to the pound.—Re- , ceived. ! ROADMAN'S REPORT. ~ The roadman (F. Haley) reported as follows: Have .carted 73i yards of metal on to Graham Street and Phmmer Terrace, and on to the footpath in Venn Street. Have had the grader on Grey, Clapham, Thompson, Maigarer, and Ballonce Streets, East Road and Main Road. Carted clay for footpath in Ballance Street. .The water mains have been scoured and the pipe lin» and galleries have been inspected. Rubbish has been collected and carted to the dump. The decking has been put on the bridge in Margaiet Street and the wirecables tightened under the bridge crossing Stansell's dram in Graham Street.—Received. ,- NEXT COUNCIL MEETING. Owing to the next fortnightly meeting falling on the night before election day, it was decided to hold the next meeting on November 2Gth. > •
