FIVE TONS A DAY.
LEVIN DAIRY OUTPUT SHOWS 21 PER CENT. INCREASE FOR SEPTEMBER. PAY-OrT OF 1/6 PER LB. The effect: of a beneficial season are beginning to bo felt by the dairy farmers of the Levin District, -as shown by the largely increased production over that of the corresponding period of last year. This advantage is not offset by any fall in the price of butter-, fat, as the directors of the Levin Dairy Co. have fixed the pay-out for September at 1/6 per lb for finest grade, which is the same price as that of twelve months ago. The present output of the factory is 200 boxes (5 tons) per day—an increase on the September production last year of 21.7 per cent. For the four months ended September 30th last, the output was 273 tons, which shows an.increase of 48 per cent, on the same period of last year. -
A few new suppliers have been added this season, but the augmented volume of cream., collected is believed to be mainly due to the favourable winter, the more general adoption of early calving cows, and the effects of the topdressing of pastures, which is becoming more and more popular.
