PORK EXPORT INDUSTRY

PROMISE OF THE FUTURE. GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS. The development of the pork export industry in New Zealand was briefly referred to by the Prime Minister in the course of' an address before a Reform rally at Wanganui. Mr Coates said last year the pork industry would have, fallen to the ground, but instead, it was now an industry to which the farmers were looking forward with keenness and a certain amount of confidence.

'' If, by a certain measure of Government sympathy," said the Prime Minister, "we can get these industries on their feet, they will not need that assistance in a few years' time. If, through the pork industry we can increase the money coming into New Zealand by we will bo satisfied, but_ we have only made a beginning with scientific research, which is acting as the basis of intelligent production and manufacture in our country.''
