THE GENERAL ELECTION.
MR McMANAWAY TO STAND. Mr 11. J. D. McManaway was in Shannon this week after having spent the week-end in Wellington, subsequent to visiting the chief centres of the Manawatu electorate. lie informed a “News” representative that he had now definitely decided, as a result of the encouraging reception he had received, to stand for the seat at the election, and in this issue he formally announces his candidature to the electors us an Independent Reformer. Mr McManaway has occupied many prominent positions in the northern end of the Manawatu electorate, having
been chairman of the Bulls Town Board and the Bulls School Committee for many years, as well as representative of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Powor Board, a director of the Rata Dairy Co., Ltd., steward of the Marton Joekcy Club, and representative on the Wanganui District Committee. Mr McManaway states that he will speak at Shannon as soon as possible. He will not, however, commence his active campaign until after the rising of Parliament, believing that a truce is due to the sitting member, who is bound by his Parliamentary duties to remain in Wellington.
