COMPLIMENTARY TEA.
A happy little function took place on Thursday, when the committee and members of the Shannon branch of the plunket Society met in the new room, the guests of the afternoon being Airs McPherson, to whom the Society is indebted for the use of the building, and Airs J. S. Spencer, who has resigned from the secretaryship on account of leaving the district. Airs Clifford Jones (president) expressed the pleasure all felt .in. being in the new room and appreciation of the fact that Mrs McPherson’s kindness had supplied a long-felt. want. They sincerely hoped she would often join them in their social gatherings held in the Plunket room. It ivas ivith very real regret they accepted the resignation of Airs Spencer. Since the branch’s inception four years ago, she had carried the burden of secretarial duties alone, and as all the members knew these duties could lie very arduous. With a good knowledge of business, Avith tact, patience and attention to detail, Mrs Spencer’s efforts had gone a long way towards placing the Society in its present satisfactory position. On behalf of the committee and members of the branch the president, presented Airs Spencer Avith a suede handbag as a token of appreciation, with very best wishes for success in whatever sphere of life the recipient might be. Mrs Spencer, in replying, thanked the Society for the gift and lioped Her successor 'would derive the happiness/ and pleasure she had had in the carrying out of these duties. Both guests Avere the recipients of charming bouquets of anemones and SAvect-peas, after Avliich a dainty afternoon tea Avas dispensed. .Members Avere delighted when the announcement was made that two donations had been received towards furnishing the room —viz., Mrs 0. 11. Speirs £l, and Mr T. 0. Tlnvaiies £1 Is. To the donors the Society tender its grateful thanks. , (Members are asked to note that a meeting of the committee will be held on Wednesday evening, October 10th, at 7.30, in the Plunket room, Stout St., when a secretary and associate will be elected.
