THE SMILING DUCHESS.
AND A PERSISTENT SCHOOL MASTER. WANGANUI, Sept. 10. Mr James Aitken, the retired schoolmaster, who was taken off the grounds in Cook's Gardens by Sergeant Sivyer on the occasion of the Duke of York's visit, in front of a crowd of 20,000 people, and who has sought redress in Parliament and from the Commissioner of Police without result, has now forwarded a petition to the King. Mr Aitkenpvas one of the organisers of the school" children and at the time he came in conflict with the police was taking a photo. The petition is made out in triplicate, &nd that for His Majesty contains actual photographs of the Duke and Duchess which Mr Aitken took.on the occasion when it was alleged he "was making a nuisance of himself. He sets out in the petition that the Duchess actually posed for him on one occasion in order that he could obtain a photograph,* and this certainly seems to be borne out by a picture attached to Jthe petition, for the Duchess was obviously facing Mr Aitken's camera,' and smiling.
