PERIODIC DRAINAGE
Periodic drainage of tiio oil reservoir is one of the most important details in the efficient operation of yow car. Upon examination of the old oil m the crankcase you will probably find that it has been thinned in Use. Chemical analysis would show the presence of a varying percentage of fuel (motor spirit), depending chiefly upon the way your car is operated, the length of time the oil has been allowod to remain in the crankcase, and the condition of the engine. In making use of the carburettor choke valve to start the engine, a large amount of fuel is drawn into the manifold and cylinders. Only the lighter and very volatile portions o± this evaporate to form the explosive mixture. Part of the remaining liquid fuel mixes with the lubricant on the cylinder walls and works down by the rings on the compression stroke, escaping into the crankcase and diluting the oil there. The remainder, and by far the larger part is blown'oat through the exhaust and is wasted.
