SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee _ was held In the schoolroom last evening.. Rios ent: Messrs A. E. Hyde (chairman), A.' Coates, C. Hansmann, G. Mercer, T. Ingley, A. Hill (secretary), and A. T White (schoolmaster). \ letter asking for the assistance and sympathy of the Committee was received from the Manawatu Boy Scouts Association regarding the formation of a Scout troop and committee in Shannon.— The letter was'received. The headmaster (Mr A. T. White) in his report stated that the aveiage attendance since his last report was 287, 294, 274, the roll number being 318. There was still a great deal of sickness, which accounted for the low attendance. He also reported that the committee of the Women’s Institute had arranged with Mr Johannes Anderson to give a lecture on birds in the Parish Hall this evening, the proceeds to be in aid of the school dental clinic fund. Also that the Shannon Cricket Club had gone out of existence, andtheir cricket material had been handed over to the school. —A vote of thanks was accorded the Women’s Institute for their effort to raise money for the dental clinic. In connection with the raising of the necessary money to establish a dental clinic in Shannon it was decided to appeal by circular to parents and others for contributions. Mr A. T. White kindly offered t.o give a. lantern leeturn with a view to helping build up the fund. Mr Hyde offered the use of the Maoriland Theatre free for the purpose.
