EXPORT OF PORK.
\ The annual meeting of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association was held at Hamilton yesterday, Mr S. H. Judd presiding. In his review of-the past year's operations the chairman said the membership now included 27 companies. During the past season the association had handled 27,733 pigs, divided into five pools. Of the total received 15,108 were classed as porkers, 12,191 as baconers, and 434 as choppers.
The association had not been able to dispose of the pools as quickly as was anticipated, and stocks, had to be stored. , The finances had been affected by the fact that 8000 carcases were still held in store. Shipping space for tin 1 coming year had been booked ahead and sufficient to meet requirements was assured. The first pool of the season resulted in a final pay-out. of 4£d per lb for porkers, 4}d per lb for baconers. 2gd per lb for chopers. The second pool had just ben closed for choppers and baconers, the final pay-out being 2Jd and respectively. The pigs received in the first two pools struck a falling market in England, and a disappointing pay-out resulted. Baconers received for the third pool in February were estimated to realise 4§d per'lb. The fourth baconcr pool had still to be realised. There were 7000 pigs at present being held in store to catch the early winter market in England. Bacon pigs received in the fifth pool had been cured for the local trade and would net suppliers 7d per lb. All pools should be fully realised in six weeks' time. Credit could be claimed by the association, said Mr Judd, for the rise in the value of baconers since January last, and but for the association's operations the scale price would have been 3£d instead of 7d. Only 2.7 per cent, of the pigs handled by the association had been condemned. The balance sheet showed that advances to suppliers had totalled £27,402; overhead handling and slaughtering costs had amounted to £10,870, and sale of produce had realised £32,339. ■* The report and balance sheet were adopted. Messrs S. H. Judd and Dearlove were re-elected directors, and Mr Judd was re-elected president.
