Nukumai and his record. Nukumai, who won honours in the New Zealand Grand National Hurdle Race at Ricearton this month, can be regarded as a most fitting horse to hold a place among the winners of that important event, and by carrying topweight, his record is embellished with a very noteworthy performance. The first event to bring Nukumai into note was the Winter Hurdle Race run at Trentham in July, 1924, which he won under 9.13, and that the merit of that performance was realised may be gathered from the fact that in his succeeding engagement in the Final Hurdle Race, he was called jupon to carry, 11.1, but that did not stop him and he won his race in good style. In the interval *he won many races, including the Egmont Steeplechase of 1926. At eighi years he wound up with quite a blaze of triumph, for he Avon the Parliamentary Handicap, Whyte Memorial Handicap and Winter Hurdle Race on successive days at the Wellington meeting. ". Last season Nukumai failed to score a win, but that he is carrying his age well he gave sterling proof when he opened his 10-year-old career with a win in the Jumpers' Flat Race on the opening day, and following up that performance on the Thursday by beating his opponents in the decision of the Grand National Hurdle Race. Since Nukumai came on the scene at four year old, he has contested 97 races, so that he can be appropriately ranged up with the hard-worked brigade. Nukumai's record stands as follows: —

Mr S. G. Davidson has good reason to rejoice over the fact that he withstood the, overtures were once made to him to sell the bay gelding, for he has proved a fine stake earner in the interval. The sum down to th< credit to Nukumai is £BBSO. Mr Alf. Wright, of Foxton, is the trainer of Nukumai.
