PROPOSED NEW ASYLUM SITE.
MARTON DOESN’T WANT IT. Quite unconsciously. Mr F. R. H, ] Brice caused some amusement at the Marton Chamber of Commerce meeting when he suggested Marton as the centre for the. new asylum, which the Government intend to erect in the Wellington province. “I seriously' suggest,” added Mr Brice, amid loud laughter, “that Marton would be an ideal centre, and tke institution would be an asset to the townspeople.” ' Voices: Are Aye as bad as all that Mr Brice, smilingly: I don’t suggest ( that, Martonians will swell the list ‘of. patients, but the matter of Marton as the centre could be placed before the GoA’ernment.
All eyes were on Mr Glenn who, in the face of further uproarious laughter, entered a strong protest. bring any matter before the Government, ’’ lie said, “but I’m blowed if I’ll get up on the floor of the House and ask for an asylum for Marton!" Mr F. J. Christensen: For Heaven’s' sake, don’t put it up on Wanganui road.
‘Mr Brice disagreed with the attitude that' had been taken up, but he appreciated the joke when a resolution by Mr J. A Bush, that the institution be erected as far away from Marton as possible, was carried unanimously and enthusiastically.
