With George O’Brien in the leading role, Allan Dwan has directed .a marvelous picture from Felix Riesenberg’s r successful novel, “East Side, a .West - side.” This Fox film opens in’Shannon on Wednesday. “East Side, West Side” is first the story of a'rugged man’s career and, second, the story of Great New York. The scene sweeps from the river fronts, through the slums, along the Bowery, up Fifth Avenue to Harlem, Morningside and Washington Heights.. The novel has .already become a best seller. . In the vividness of his characterizations and the vigor of his narrative Riesenberg has' maintained the standard he set in his earlier books, “Under Sail,” and “Vignettes of the Sea.” oince he directed Douglas Fairbanks in “Robin Hood” and Gloria SwainsOn in “Zaza” and “Manhandled,” Director Dwan has steadily maintained hie reputation for producing powerful pictures. With the combination of a popular star and a well known story, Dwan hag made another in “East Side, West Side.” SYD. CHAPLIN IN ‘ ‘ THE MISSING _ LINK.” In “The Missing Link,” to be in Shannon on Friday, Syd. Chaplin pre?. sents something altogether “different.” Beginning as a discouraged young man with a fear complex, he becomes entangled in the destinies of a famous big-game hunter, bound for Africa. By a ludicrous series of mißhaps, Syd. is carried off on the same liner, and when the hunter learns that desperate rivals are trying to do away with him, he trickily persuades Syd. to be his substitute. After surviving a number of frightening episodes on the ship, they arrive in Africa, where -the fun begins in earnest. Between the natives, the hunter’s enemies, and ferocious jungle denizens, Syd. has a very busy time of it. Love causes a ll ’ other complication, and he must vindicate himself in the eyes of the girl by overcoming his cowardice. The cast includes Ruth Hiatt, Tom McGuire, Crawford Kent, Sam Baker and “Akka;”
