HOROWHENUA DISTEIOT COUNCIL.
The weekly meeting of the management committee of the. Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held in the Wistaria Rooms on Tuesday, there being present: Messrs W. Hannan (president), J. W. Procter (liui Mai), A. Richards (Shannon), W. Phillips (Referees), G. Mitchell (Shannon), Les McDonald (Wanderers), J. Casey (secretary).. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs S. Hooper (Weraroa) and E..M. Ryder (Wanderers). JUNIOR KNOCK-OUT. Entries for the junior knock-out competition for the Licensed Victuallers' Cup were received from the Weraroa, Foxton, Paraparaumu, Shannon, Miranui, and Hui Mai clubs. It was: decided that the competition be- commenced on Saturday next. Arrange-, ments for the draw were left to the secretary. CURTAIN-RAISER TO MANAWHENUA MATCH. The Chairman reported that the Oriental club, Wellington, had intimated to the Manawhenua Union their wish to play, a junior match against a from the combined district, the date suggested being Saturday, August 25-th,. the day of the Manawhenua v. Wellington senior rep. game at Levin. The Chairman had told the secretary of the Combined Union that the Horowhenua Council could find a junior team to play on that day.
It was resolved, on the motion of the Chairman, that the Hui Mai juniors be asked to play the match against Oriental, to commence at 12.30 p.m. as a curtain-raiser to the Manawhen-ua-Wellington game. THIRD GRADE REP. MATCH. A letter was received from the Bush Union proposing Mr A. Henry, a senior referee in their district, to control the third grade match to be played against Horowhenua at Pahiatua on Wednesday next. The nomination was agreed to. Mr Procter was appointed manager of the Horowhenua team, which will travel by bus. WRONG JERSEYS. A report was received that two Hui Mai players in the senior match against Weraroa played at Weraroa on Saturday, were wearing wrongly, coloured jerseys. A fine of 2s 6d was imposed in each ease. INTERMEDIATE BOYS' GRADE. Mr Casey suggested that the Council inaugurate a grade next year for b'bys aged 15£ years and under, and charge them Is per head for travelling expenses. Mr. Richards remarked that such a system would encourage lads who were just below the third grade and who previously ' were lia'ble to lose two or 'threfe years' football. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Mitchell, the matter was referred to Messrs Casey and Procter, to bring down a report, when convenient. J. PRIMARY SCHOOL REPS. -Mr Procter made complimentary reference to Mr H. McDonald for the manner in which he had managedthe Horowhenua primary school reps, on their visit to Wellington .on Saturday. The speaker was impressed by the way v in which the boys were turned out. Every lad of the team went on to the ground with his boots polished and his general persona] appearance very neat. Mr Richards endorsed Mr Procter's remarks, and expressed the hope that. Mr McDonald would carry on his good work.
Mr Casey said that the Council were "fortunate in having such an enthusiast as Mr McDonald in charge of school football.
The committee decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr J. Linklater, M.P., for . the active interest he had taken in the Horowhenua boys during, their visit.
CONDOLENCE,
A vote of sympathy in connection with the death of Mrs Boulton was passed to Mr H. Boulton (son) and Mr S. Hooper (son-in-law).
