COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS.
REPORT BY THE ENGINEER,
The County Council on Saturday received the following report fr,>m the engineer (Mr. J. T.„ M. Brewster): - Main Highways.
No. 1 Highway: Waikanae River to Otaki Bridge.—Repairs to shoulders of the payment, where required, have been carried out by way of metal patching. Otaki River to Manakau Stream. — Repairs to the shoulders of the pavement have been carried out where required. Levin to Wirokino Bridge.—General maintenance, by way of metal patching and. grading, has been carried out on this length of road. *" No. 60 Highway: Levin to Wirokino Boundary. —General maintenance work by way of metal patching, 135 cubic yards, and grading have been carried out on the unpaved portion of this road.
Shannon to North Boundary. —General maintenance by way of- metal patching and grading have been carried out on this road. The Kara Stream bridge approaches have been completed, and traffic was. allowed over the bridge on July, 14th. The crusher at Tokomaru River has been employed crushing metal for the main highway, mostly for foundation work between Tokomaru River and the North Boundary. No. 373 Highway: General maintenance work has been carried out on this road. ThTCe collapsed wooden culverts have been replaced with reinforced concrete pipes. Riding Matters.
Te Horo.—The grader has been at work on Mangaone, Otaki Gorge and Hautere Cross roads. Scrub, and growth generally, has been cut back on the sides of. Rahui Road. Otaki.-rWater-tables on Manakau township roads have been cleaned out. An earthenware culvert has been put in on Waikawa " Beach Road near Drake's.
Wirokino. —Maintenance metal has been put on Roslyn, Fairfield and Hea-therlea-Koputaroa .Roads. The roller has been working on Roslyn, Fairfield and Koputaroa Roads. The grader has been over Bruce, Bolton, Buller, Florida, Muhunoa East and McLeavey Roads.
Tokomaru. —The grader has been at work on Hume's and Akers' Roads. Acertain amount of gravel patching has been carried out on Hume's Road. The .amount of gravel put out is governed by the rise and fall of the Manawatu River, from which the gravel is being ■ obtained. The contractor has completed metalling " 31 chains of Pretoria Road, putting out a total of 152 cubic yards. Water-tables on Albert Road have been cleaned out,, also the Shanmon j ßuckley and Buckley East Roads have received attention.
Generally,' throughout the County, routine work have been carried out.
