SHANNON V. FOXTON. Played at Foxton the game started twenty minutes late, though the Shannon team we're waiting on the ground at the official starting time, Foxton's full team failing to put in an appearance, and the ground not having been marked off. Shannon were without the services of seven of their most useful seniors, while Foxton were minus four of their best players, From the kick-off, the game started in a ragged fashion. Shannon's forwards in the scrums were playing well but were inclined to break away too soon, while the three-quarter line lacked everything it should have possessed.' McKenzie and Walls played a lone game until r the half time interval. Robinson scored a good try for Foxton before the whistle sounded, leaving the score, Foxton 3, Shannon nil. On resuming, Huff carried the ball straight to Shannon's line and tlien passed; to Thompson, who scored, the kick failing. Foxton 6, Shannon nil. Shortly afterwards, Ngatuna, who had played well for Shannon had to retire with a. bad cut on his forehead, Robbie taking his place. The pace now warmed up a bit and after some up and down play Shannon started a hard attack. From a serum in Foxton's 25, Walls dived through the ruck and passed, to Dalzell to MeKenzie to score, "Mason converting. Foxton 6 ; Shannon 5. With seventeen minutes to go the game went on at a hard pace. Thompson (Foxtqn), intercepting a pass in the three-quarter line, raced for the Shannon line with Mason and Robbie after him. Unfortunately the two Shannon players collided and Mason was badly 'winded. Thompson twice ran away-but Mason was too fast and succeeded in collaring him before he crossed the line. At the last minute Shannon attacked hard, Walls passed to Mason from a scrum, and the latter scored on the corner. Warman goalcd a beauty from out on the touch line and the game ended, Shannon 10, Foxton 6. Mr McLeavey controlled the game.
WERAROA v. HUI MAI. A contest which possessed features that were out of the ordinary run took place between Weraroa and Hui Mai, on the Weraroa Domain. Considering .that other important football attractions were being provided in the town and district, there was quite a good attendance. The circumstance for which the game was most noteworthy was that the whole of Hui Mai's score of 10 points was compiled by one man, M. Johnston; whilst 12 of Weraroa's 14 points were seoredjiy J. McLennan. The other outstanding fact was that the local team-won the game in the last five minutes. In the first spell the scores were five to three in favour of the visitors, Johnston obtaining a try and converting it, and McLennan kicking a penalty goal. Johnston repeated his performance in the second half, and McLennan added tAvo penalty goals. With only one point separating the teams, and- the game nearly over, Weraroa made a determined attack and yfter sevpral a'ttempts to ground the ball over their opponents', line they were successful, Taylor getting away from a scramble. McLennan converted. Hui Mai commenced to retaliate and a five-yard serum was soon in progress. The home team had just relieved the pressure by a' free kick when time was sounded. Mr P. McGregor- was referee.
