AUSTRALIA'S POPULATION. The population of Australia on March 31st was 6,262,720. Figures for the various States are:— Persons. New South Wales . 2,413,898 Victoria 1,748,610 Queensland 903,119 South Australia .. 576,576 West Australia 395,851 Tasmania ......... 212,043 Northern Territory 4,238 Federal Territory ... .$,385 Total 6,262,720 The figures indicate that since the census of April, 1921, the population of Australia increased by 826,986, made up to 559,872, or due to natural increase, and 267,114 due to excess o? arrivals over departures. The increase represents an average rate of slightly more than 2 per cent, per annum.
