Every day in the year Dr. Barhado'« Homes have to think about f odd.; - Their family numbers nearly .; 8000 boy's and girls and babies and all of these require three meals a day.'Some of them need the extra diet of the invalid child or the yftung baby. iThere are 3700 boys and gjrls of school age, "with the healthy appetite of youth. . In order to supply- the wants qf this large family, which equals a town in size,- the Homes/are appealing fois4oo,.000 half crowns as birthday gifts in memory of the late Dr. Barriadoi; Economy is the guiding principle of the Homes in all their work, f But every house-mother knows that; you cannot economise, on the food of child-, ren, without detriment to their, health. The Barnardo family needs 24,000 meals a day: 168,000 meals a week, 8,736,000 me T als a year. Bread is a large item. Sixteen" hundred loaves are baked daily by the lads in the Barnardo bakehouse. But this supplies only about three-eighthß of the family. Milk is another large item in the daily menu. One thousand gallons per day are required. The Charter of the Homes is "No Destitute Child' Ever Refused Admission. " On an average five children are admitted daily. Under this Charter j>ver 105,000 children have been admitted, cared for, educated and trained and placed out in the world as Al citizens', instead of C3's. Over 30,000 have been.sent to the British Dominions, thus helping to people the British Empire Overseas with British born, Cheques and orders may be made payable to "Dr. Barnardo's Homes Food Fund," and crossed, and addressed to "Dr. Barnardo's Homes Food Fund," 18-26, Stepney Causeway, London, El, England.
