‘ ‘HARD-BOILED HAGGERTY. ’» The intoxication and color of Parisian life during the World War provides thrills, romance and spice to Milton Sills’ latest film for First National Pictures, “Hard-Boiled Haggerty.” The war scenes, besides providing some spine-tickling thrills early in the picture and a colorful atmosphere for the Parisian seqences which follow it, are cleverly used to develop “Haggerty’s” character. Molly O’Day, a brilliant new light among leading women, plays opposite Sills. The picture bubbles with comedy, and Sills himself takes part in a great, deal of the fun. Real drama is developed in a sequence wherein Haggerty’s kindly major mistakes the heroine for a French girl and warns him against her, the ensuing fight between the men and a court martial proceedings, in which the major and the girl sacrifice themselves to protect the ace.

Belle Bennett has the featured role. . Ford, who gave the photoplay world “The Iron Horse” and “3 Bar Men,” has made the most intelligent use of the Irish background, rich in screen values, and it is said that Miss Bennett has brought to her part a tenderness seldom seen in motion picture endeavour. Cast with Miss Bennett are many of sereenland’s favourites.
