METAL FOR BITUMEN ROAD SHOULDERS.

GENERAL ATTENTION TO BE GIVEN. . ——- ) At the County Council 1 meeting on Saturday, Cr. Jensen asked that the Engineer give attention to the sides of the Main Highways where they are being cut up. He stated that such attention was specially necessary in the wet weather, which caused the edge of the bitumen to suffer to a cer- 4 tain extent, the water finding its way , underneath. It was necessary to have « some suitable metal to remedy this. The Chairman (Mr Monk) said it was noticeable outside dairy factories that there was traffic on the shoulders of the road. ' T* Cr. McLeavey supported Cr. Jensen’s request. Cr. Kilsby said it was necessary that something be done to the shoulders on many parts of the road. The ground at the sides was soft in places, and it remained in that condition for a considerable time. In such cases the ' shoulders must be kept metalled. The Chairman remarked that between the Te Horo factory and the railway crossing the trouble was rather serious. It was decided that the Engineer be instructed to give attention generally 4' to the shoulders on the Slain Highway.
