SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and Crs A. E. Hyde, R. Downes, Jas. Richardson, Jas. Curran, jun, and E. J. S. SpenCe ROAD EMBANKMENT. The District Engineer of the Railway Department wrote in connection with the proposed extension of road embankment and culvert on the railway land near Grey Street level crossing, stating that after due consideration he cannot, see his way clear to accede to the Council's request that his Department should provide the necessary pipes. The Council may, however, extend the embankment and culvert on to the railway land provided that precautions are taken to prevent spoil from the embankment from blocking the waterway. The Department will re-establish the fence on the shoulder of the embankment on completion of the work at its own expense.—This work will be put in hand as soon as a reply is received from the Public Works Department with reference to a subsidy for the relief of unemployed. SLAUGHTER HOUSE LICENSE. A renewal ofV a slaughterhouse license to the Mangahao Butchery Co., Ltd., was recommended by the Council. METALLING CEMETERY ROAD.

The Mayor was of opinion that before the,Council accepted the offer i'or metal fo;- the Cemetery' load, local men should be given a chance to tender for same. The councillors being of the same opinion, Or. Downes was appointed to ascertain the amount of metal required and to call tenders locally. RANGER'S REPORT.
The ranger (J. Swindlehurst) reported that 3ince his last report he had found one cow at large which was returned to the owner. —Received. ROADMAN'S REPORT.
The roadman (F. Haley) reported as follows.—Have carted 183' yards of metal on to Clapham, Stafford, Ballance, Margaret and Bryce Streets, and Pliuimer and Nathan Terraces. The pipe line and galleries have been inspected and the water mains scoured Have collected and carted rubbish to the dump. The formation of footpath in Ballance Street is now completed and ready for metalling. The metal on hand is too rough for this work. The widening of the cemetery road has been completed and is ready for metalling.—Adopted. j
