THE SPLENDOUR OF YOUTH."
LONDON, May 10,
Although there is a decline in the number of Sunday School scholars, the Eev. M. E. Aubrey, the secretary of the Baptist Union, is not pessimistic about modern youth. Yesterday at a Bristol Assembly he stated that youth wanted' a positive religion, and were not much interested in most of the Ten Commandments. A "It is free* and rejoices in its freedom. It knows its power, and is learning responsibility. "True, our young men and women j discuss matters that would make our grandmothers shudder." (Laughter) . "That big question of birth control is to them a serious economic problem. We may not like all this, but it is no use hiding from it." .(Hear, hear)'. Winning Them Over. It was useless to set out to win youth , for Christ with appeals that were remote from their interests and needs. In a sense, youth was the same in every generation—impulsive, daring, generous—but its thoughts changed, and the change in the last fifteen years had been very great, "They dislike prohibitions, and they tell me they do not believe Christ would forbid, them to play healthy games in the' open air on Sundays, rather than sit in church listening to a service that does not interest them. "I do not agree with them, and it is rather upsetting for some of us, but it will come right if we do not adopt a superior attitude and show them we do care about them. If we do not satisfy their spiritual needs, let us pray that some other church may, "Our churches should capture the splendour and daring of our modern youth." (Cheers.)
