FIRE AT SHANNON.

At 1.20 a.m. yesterday morning an alarm of fire was given in Shannon by flic ringing of the firebell and the “tooting” of an engine at the railway station.

The scene of the conflagration was in an unoccupied five-roomed dwelling owned by Mr W. Swindlehurst, of Buckley, and situated at. the southern end of Vogel street. The Fire Brigade turned out, but they could do nothing, owing to there being no fire-plugs in this portion of the street, with'the result that the building was quickly demolished. The house had been unoccupied since Saturday. The insurance on the building was £450 in the National office. Protect your property aga'nst fire by having it properly covered with A. E. Hyde, agent for the National Fire insurance. Co.*
