OTAKI BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the above Club was- held at Otaki on Tuesday night, when there was a goo,d attendance. Mr. J. P. Brandon oceupliffi the chfir, and apologised for the absence of Messrs Freeman, O'Rourke, Smallbone, Witchell', and Dr. Milne. New Members.

After the minutes were confirmed Messrs Young, Hanson, Hawk, and Smythe were elected as new members. * Balance-Sheet. The report, as already'published, and the balance-sheet, showing a credit of £l4 over last year’s working, were read and adopted. Members'* considered the state of finances very satisfactory. Vote of Condolence. The chairman moved a vote Of condolence to the Simcox family on account of their recent sad bereavement, : and it was agreed that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to Mr. W. M. Simcox. ‘ ; Officers. The following were elected officers for the season:—PUtron, Mr. H. Freeman; President,' Mr. J. P. Branfion; Vice-Presidents, Messrs H. J. Pear so, J. McGill, W. White-Scott,' A. Satheriey; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr. D, H. Wilmot (re-elected);'assistant, Mr. H. Palmer, Pleasing reference was made to the splendid work done by Mr. Wilniot who, it was stated by Mr. Palmer, came . ;as a ray of light, and was the means of making the season one of the best in the history of the' club. Everything 'he considered, depended on a good secretary, and the iClub could not overappreciate Mr. Wilmot's splendid work. The Club, he maintained, was most fortunate in having such an official, and be. was pleased to know that Mr. Wilmot. had agreed to re-election. Person ally, he wbuld be only too pleased to act as his assistant. v The remarks were endorsed by other members, and it was agreed that bowlers last year were "one big, happy, family." The Club possessed a fine isecretary, had. a splendid green, and 'the best of climates. Everything, as Mr. White-Scott- stated, remained with dhe "man behind the gun," and in „ Mr. Wilmot they; possessed what was needed.

Mr. Wilmot, in returning thanks, said, that he had taken up the position after the season had opened, and certainly had had a strenuous time. He was, however, getting matters in order, and enjoyed the work. He had done his best, tried 'to be tactful to all, and " was pleased to know that they had had a happy time. Mr. Wilmot paid a high tribute to the committee, which he considered an excellent one in all respects. Reference was made to the many visits of Wellington Clubs, and it was pointed out that the City players, on each 'occasion,'had had most enjoyable times. - Mr. 'Lowry "expressed thanks for courtesy extended to him as a new 'member, and he - could truthfully say that Mr. Palmer, had made him feel a! home. He had seen that gentleman ofttimes denying himself pleasure for the sake of others. Committees. iCommitteo: Messrs D. Noble, 11. J. Wyatt, F. Young, T. H. Millward, P. Whyte, L; G. Lowry, and H. Nicolson; Match Committee: Messrs T, H. Milliard and H. J. Wyatt (Wednesday) and Messrs White-Scott and H. J. Pearse (Saturday); green supervisor, . Mr. A. Satheriey; assistant, Mr. F. Young; delegate to Manarwatu Centre, Mr. P. Morris, failing acceptance Mr. Bartholomew to be asked to act; auditor, Mr. H. Witchell (re-elected); refreshment committee, Messrs Palmer and Wyatt. Subscription. ■: Mr. Wyatt moved that the annual /sub. be £2 15s (to cover everything), reducible to £2 10s if paid by December Ist.—-Seconded by Mr. Palmer, and car'xied. Social Room. Mr. Satheriey thought it advisable ithat alterations should be made to the pavilion to enable card-parties, etc., to be held. He thought this would be a good thing for the Club. He moved ,that it be a recommendation to the committee to take the matter in hand, and devise some scheme for raising ' money to- carry out the work.—Agreed to. Visitors. It was stated that quite a number of visitors, who expressed great appreciation at the hospitality of the Club desired to become hon. members, but it , was generally agreed by local bowlers (that such hospitality should still be expended without fee. It was therefore •agreed to make no charge. 1 Annual Ball. Mr. Wilmot made reference to the annual ball which, he said, was the source of raising considerable funds. * He suggested that Messrs Satheriey and Witchell be again asked to take the matter in hand as joint secretaries. Mr. Satheriey . said already there •were numerous enquiries about the ball, .and at least half-a-dozen orchestras had (written asking for engagement. One „ orchestra had played for the Governor, and another's fee was £l7 17s. . It was agreed to hold the ball, on a date to be arranged. Mr. Wilmot was added to the secretaries. Several members paid a very high ■tribute to last year's secretaries. Appreciation. Mr. Wilmot considered that the ladies of the Croquet Qlub were entitled to a very hearty vote of thanks for (their great help during the year.—Decided to forward a letter of appreciation. r Trophies. Mr. Young thanked the Club for fleeting, him a member, and said 4 hat . ';he had pleasure in offering a gold medal, to be 'awarded at the discretion pf the committee. ‘ Mr. Satheriey stated that Mr. Free- _ man had handed to himajiumber of the Club's . trophies. Personally, he

would also be pleased to again award a pairs trophy. Mr. Brandon offered £2 2s for a trophy for the Croquet Club. Thanks were accorded the donors. A Challenge. A challenge for a game of euchre was received from the Otaki Fire Brigade for the 13th fnst., 12-men aside.—The matter was left to Messrs Satheriey and -Smith to arrange. Invitations. Invitations were received from the Fire Brigade for two members of the Club to be present at the smoke concert on the 11th.—Accepted with 'thanks. Congratulations. Congratulations were extended to Messrs Pearse and Palmer on winning the pairs games, it being stated by Mr. Smith that they had played consistently throughout, and well deserved their win. Application. Mr. Wilmot stated that an application had been received from the Tennis Club for permission to go to the courts through the bowling green. —Decided to give permission for players to go through at such times when bowling was in progress.
