COLD STORAGE IN VANS
Cold storage vans and trailers have been introduced, says the Australian Meat Trades Journal, for the carriage of meat, eggs, butter, etc., from the pastures and farms of California to the markets of San Francisco. ' The bodies of van and trailer have 6in. insulation and their interiors are cooled by means of a mechanical refrigerating unit. The vans have four double wheels on the roar and two single wheels in front. Westinghouse air brakes operate from the driver’s scat on both truck and trailer, with compressed hir provided by an auxiliary gas engine generator plant, which also Bupplios lights for the exterior and interior of the truck and trailer and current for the motor of the refrigerating plant, the latter being regulated by a thermostat so that inside temperature is automatically maintained at 34 degrees. The interior of the truck body resembles a cold storage room, with travelling hooks for the hanging of meats..
