MORE FASHION NOTES FROM ABROAD

By the last mail, a resume of the latest fashions was received from New York. Waist Line. Long, natural curve in underarm linos in evening clothes. Juvenile dresses and sports suits belted in slightly below the natural waist line. The waist ■line of mature figures comes at the point of the hip. Skirt Length. Juvenile skirts very short. Irregular hemlines make adult skirts seem longer. Evening costumes decidedly longer for both types. Coats. Straight line and flared coats, mainly the former. Capes of all kinds to trim coats, including short shoulder capes, capes to the waistline, sleeve capes, one,side capes. In many cases the capes are bordered with fur or are scalloped . Coats are full or seven-eighths length. Many collarless coats; a few of these with bands of fur at tho elbows; this makes the only trimming. Many scarf collars of all sizes and widths and treatments. Less fur at the neck, but a great deal at the cuffs. Until now the coats seem to favour the cashmere materials and kasha, but as the season advances, many silk coats are coming in with undoubted popularity. This includes coats of taffeta, faille, satin, and georgette. Many tweeds c,ut in flared sports type. Suits. ' -: Navy twill suits, a few stripes, single and double-breasted and cardigan styles, are being worn somewhat, but not so much as last year. Ensembles. Coats of ensembles differ in length from three-quarter to full-length, v Ensembles of tweed and kasha with silk frocks of plaip or print. Silk ensembles also, especially black silk seveneighths coat and print dress to harmonise.. Velveteen ensembles much in favour with silk or print dresses. Velveteen and transparent velvet are coming more and more into vogue as the season advances. , Evening Dresses. Evening dresses at the present moment seem to sconsist exclusively of bouffant drescs "of""sheer materials, such as chiffon, lace net, tulle ,etc. The hem line is invariably uneven, often with a sudden dip at the back. Blous cs very snug fitting and waist lines practical)' normal. Bust more pre dominant. ' Daytime Dresses. Many prints small and large designs, and polka dot materials. Plain colours are beige, navy, violet, yellow and green. A great deal of black and white. .. Much faggoting on tailored dresses. Voluminous plaiting and much ruffling: Tiered skirts. Plaits and ruffles as much in blouses as in skirts, trimming neck lines, sleeves, blouse fronts, and so on. Eippling skirts. Many evening and afternoon dres ■ses of lace. Considerable cotton used for sports. Cotton sweaters and pique for tennis. Many sleeveless frocks for sports wear, of silk, linen and jersey. * Ma jority of these nave kerchiefs for trimming. Hats. '* Felt hats still ahead in popularity for sports wear. Hats with and with out brims. Brims turned and slashe.': in ' various ways ,in straw as well as felt. Much flower trimming, as web as feathers and leaves. Quite a vogm at present for toques made entirely oi flowers. Shapes remain- small generally, except for the large brimmed hat to be worn "for ■summer ■with sheer dresses. Pyjamas More pyjamas worn than ever. Often a three-quarter coat accompanies the pyjanja suit. Pyjamas are no longer necessarily boyish or tailored m Style, and in spite of the trousers, look very feminine. Made of -georgette aud chiffon in pale tones, with Face and maribou trimming. Other tailored, pyjamas of satin, shantung ; and .other rough silk materials. Jewellery. Crystals in white and colour in greatest favour. Also much silver filigree and heavy gold jewellery. Corsets. Corsets are longer; slightly shaped into the waist, very soft in fabric. Lavender, citron, green and beige colours featured in ' Fifth Avenue displays. Many fine corsets selftrimmed in decidedly tailored effect. Number of fashion exhibitions have boon given, featuring new corsets and their value in keeping the figure beautiful in line. These in greater number than for several years. Maey's report excellent corset business, indicating that the corset is again a part of the every day costume.
