ELECTRICAL SUPPLY.
POWER BOARD ENGINEER'S REPORT. The report by the Horowhenua Power Board's engineer* (Mr .J. A. Smith), adopted at the monthly meeting on Tuculay, was as under: — Owing to ,h'i ic-organisat : cn of the outside staff, the detailed work of each gang- is omitted and opera, ons carried out, from Levin and S.iannon Depots, respectively, has been substituted:—
Levin Depot.—During the period 16 new service lines were run, P.2, poles I carted, iitted and erected, 'and 500 chains of wire run. Ex.a phases were on 4 service liues. Two street lamps and th:-ee earth were erected and one outdoor subrtat'on. Included in the above, the e-ruef items arc changing wire Rahui No. 1 to Waitohu Valley Road, and McKr.y's Sub. to L. Smith's Paekakaiiki. Extension of L.T: to Biggins', Wa'kanae, pnd extra phases Waikanae Beach and York Street, Levin; a.'ro extension community l.'ghtJng, Levin. The Substation, Otaki North, has been moved to a new position to give access to same, on account o>. road deviation. Alterations were made to the service at the Otaki Racecourse. - The chief maintenance work carried out was L.T. Soldiers' Road, Kuku, restrained and neutral replaced with larger section. S'.x spans Arapaepae Bond re-stra ! ned and a number of service lines put in order. Transformers at Eraser ; s, Whirokino, and Otaki, North charged and reconditioned, and j switch pane's overhauled. Street lamps j renewed and general maintenance. Shannon Depot.—Three poles were fitted and erected; 2 services run. Alterations were made toe'ear P. and T. lines near punt at Manawatu River, and wider cross-arms are being fitted on a portion of the Tokomaru L.T. line where subject to heavy winds. Owing to the continued heavy gales, a good deal of standlng-by at the Main Sub. had to be done. Street lamp renewal, attentidn. to complaints, and general maintenance have'been attended to.
Installations. —During the period 16 applications from new consumers, and 47 applications for extensions to existing installations have been received, comprising 5 ranges, 7 waterheaters, 2 industrial and <one ; milking motor. Fourteen new consumers and 42 extensions have been connected, including 4 ranges, 4 waterheaters, 9 small- industrial motors, and 33 heating points. Six community lights have been installed and put into service. Sixty-nine single phase and 2 polyphase meters have been tested, and 23 single phase and 3 polyphase metert have been repaired and re-tested. Two ranges have been dried out. Workshop. —One 11,000-volt switch panel has been re-conditioned and one 11,000-volt line switch made up; also a quantity of general line material made up. STAFF REORGANISATION.
Replying to a question by Mr Morse regarding staff reorganisation, the chairman (Mr G. A. Monk) stated that, instead of the staff being divided into definite gangs as formerly, the men were now sent out from the depot, as required, for" certain work. Consequently they might be employed on maintenance one. day and construction the next. It had -ecu necessary to reduce the staff by six men.
