GOLF NOTES.

There was a large attendance on the Shannon links on Saturday to take part in the June medal match and some good scores were handed in. Mr C. Stern who has developed into a long hitter, is playing very well for a novice, and should soon reach the back markers. The result of the day's play is as follows: 0. Stern 92—18—74. King 95—20—75. Gagliardi 95—18—77. ' Goodwin 84—2—82. . .' Jones 100—18—82. Spencer 105—22—83. \ 11. Stem 105—22—83. i D. Saxon 102—18—84. 11. Blvthe 85—0—85. Blackwood 111—26—85. H. Saxon 105—20—85. ' A. Saxon 94—8—8(5. Ostler 126—40—86. i Morgan 97—10—87. j Stevenson 118—30—88. I Players must observe the rules and see that their score card is signed by their opponent, otherwise the score will not be considered. ! It has been decided to replay the I ladies' medal match for June. ' The following will represent the club against Foxton on Saturday next, 16th instant, the match to be played at Shannon.

Men.—Blackwood, C. Stern, H. Stern, Spencer,) King, 'Gtagliardi, D". Saxon, Jones (capt). Ladies.—Mrs Saxon,. Mrs Morgan, Miss Sinclair, Mrs Spencer, Miss P. Saxon, Mrs Moynihan, Miss M. Brown. Very rapidly now the local course is approaching the-ideal playing conditions and already good scores are being reported. We* hope to see quite a number of cards with less than 80 before tile season ends this year; there being some promising young members who are acquiring a firmer grip of the game each week. Now that the surface of the links has improved very greatly during the, last week or so, it has been decided to dispense with the temporary local rule of lifting and dropping from six inches; with the exception of holes one, ( two and nine, the fairways of which'still have somewhat long' grass. Later on the rulewill cease to apply, in these paddocks also. Should it be necessary to drop a ball out of deep hoof marks, cattle or sheep tracks, ditche.s or away from fences, it should be done over the shoulder in the way set out in the rub

1 es* of golf. This rearrangement of local rules will come into force on Saturday next and the match against Fox- . ton will be played accordingly. Players are notified that by then the ladders will be ready for competition and all new members will find theii positions allotted. It is hoped that al- ' players w4ll take a keen' interest in the' ladder matches, and so improve their own play and assist the handicap pers and selectors in their duties. The rules governing ladder matches are already, posted at the golf house.. Al score cards in connection with sucl matches must be left in the box provided for signed cards. As an inter-club match will be play ed on Saturday with Foxton, lady members are kindly requested to provide afternoon tea. • .
