RANFURLY SHIELD MATCHES.

MANAWHENUA TO PLAY CANTERBURY ON JULY 18th. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union, a challenge was received from Hawke's Bay for the Ranfurly Shield. The challenging Union intimated that it fully realised Canterbury's difficulty regarding fixtures, but suggested September 12th as the date for the match, in Christehurch, conditional on Canterbury holding the Shield on that date. Mr S. F. Wilson: I move that we accept the challenge, and pray we will be able to play it. The motion was carried.

Other challenges accepted were: Wairarapa, for July 18th; Manawhenua, August 11th. The Chairman pointed out that South Canterbury had put in the first claim for the challenge match. _lt was decided to write to that Union, pointing out that it would be , very hard for Canterbury to fix a date prior to July 18th. _______
