Otaki Acceptances. Acceptances for the first day of the Otaki meeting, including the maiden race, will close.on Friday at 8.30 p.m. A double engagement. Black Mint and Hymestrason, who are amongst the nominations for the D.J.C. winter meeting, have also been nominated for the Otaki meeting held on the same date as the Wingatui fixture. Needs to improve. Shining Armour will, according to Wanganui running, require some straigtening up to make him a good hurdler, as he is inclined to screw about at his jumps. An Auckland runner. , The withdrawal of Aberfeldy from the May Hurdle Handicap at Wanganui on" Thursday came as a surprise to m'any people. An explanation is to be found in the fact that the gelding has not done well since he left R-ccar-ton. He hag gone off his feed and for this reaspn It. W. King probably considered it unwise to start him so early on the trip. Doubtless he hopes to have his horse doing better a little, later. It will be a matter for regret if Aberfeldy is not able to reproduce his best form at the Auckland meeting. A son of Hymestra. Hymestrason, who, as his name suggests, is a son of Hymestra, better known progeny of that sire being Hynanna and Miss Ransom, showed plenty of promise when he made his debut over the battens at Otaki, but backers have >ad to wait patiently. On that earlier occasion Hymestrason had been in the van at the final fence where he had crashed and the effects of the fall were in evidence for some time after. Since re-entering the ranks he has been confined to flat racing until he stepped out to take the public unaware at Wanganui on Satday. He has' been re-handicapped at 9.9 in the Trial Hurdles at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting. Not up to expectations. Broad Acre, who was at a long price in the Borough Handicap at Wanganui on Thursday, made a very poor showing. He has failed in his last seven starts, though earlier in the season he displayed grea't form by winning six races out of eight, chiefly in the hack class. A close go. The jockeys'hadder is still headed by T. Green, with 68 wins. R. Reed rode two winners at Wanganui, and is now four behind. A. E. Ellis has 61 wins, and it is unfortunate that he should be kept out of the saddle at this end of the season, and at' a period when he would tie securing plenty of rides. A cup candidate. Wanganui running shows Glenross to be on the improve and if allowed to start at Otaki he will be entitled to a certain amount of respect in the principal event. Lacks finish. Braeman is a game sort but unfortunately lacks the necessary brilliancy. It is quite probable that he would do better in cross-country events. H«_ finished fourth just behind Pou.ri in the Century Hurdles.
